From the Nursing Corner:

Procedure to make things easier for you if you are hospitalized

  1. You or a family member should call your counselor and tell him/her that you are in the hospital and provide the counselor with the following information:
    1. Name of the hospital you are in and the name you are registered under
    2. Your room, floor and phone number if possible
  2. You should tell the hospital staff that you are on methadone and ask them to call and verify your dose with Walker Recovery Center at 221-1799
  3. UPON DISCHARGE: Please bring in to dosing the following:
    1. Your discharge paperwork from the hospital
    2. A list of all medications you received while hospitalized
    3. Proof that you were dosed with methadone, the date you were last dosed and the amount you were dosed while in the hospital
    4. Any Rx that you were given upon discharge from the hospital

Failure to do any of the above could result in a very long wait to dose. Why? Because you will have to WAIT until a nurse (not the dosing nurse) arrives, you will sign a release for the hospital and WAIT until the nurse gets the information back from the hospital after the release is faxed. This can take a very long time if the hospital has to track down your chart, your doctor or a nurse that remembers you! Remember, you probably won’t feel well when you get out of the hospital and waiting a long time for a dose can be frustrating and tiring.

Medication Call Back
I know everyone thinks this procedure is ridiculous but there is reasoning behind this.  This policy not only protects the clinic, it protects YOU!!!! The clinic gets anonymous calls all the time that reports a client is selling their take homes. If we call you in this is a very good source of protection for yourself. We also check to see if you are taking the correct dose on the correct date. This will protect you if you are stopped by the police. They also check the dates. Don’t look at this as a hassle; look at it as safe dosing.
